On the Edge

This is what love looks like. Or at least what a heart on a wall looks like.

Sometimes certain things take us take us off our game. For me, it was my recent birthday. Getting older is a funny thing, there are some years where it doesn't feel like a big deal and others where it feels like you might as well start looking into getting an AARP membership and starting sentences with, "Well, back in my day..."  and you start calling everyone whippersnappers and having dinner at 4 p.m. I started thinking about where I am, where I thought I'd be, where I'm was exhausting. So instead of the "where's," I was focusing on, I decided to focus on the "wear" of it all instead (homophone ftw). See what I mean...keep readin'...

I decided to go with a bit of a confident edge. The black, the leather, the relaxed fit - it all seemed to say, "I do what I want. I'm grown. I have pockets."

From the instant I saw this jacket I fell in love with the lines, the details, the silhouette, the basically everything. All of everything. I called it my, "I'm freakin' out about my birthday so I might as well look OK while I freak out jacket" jacket. I don't always take that approach - buying something to assuage my anxiety. It generally doesn't fix the problem. Also, it's a good way to go broke. It was my bday present to myself though, and every once in a while you gotta just go with it...

The relaxed structure of the pants along with the seeming was the perfect balance to the structure of the jacket.

In these times, it's best to remember that where you are is where you are supposed to be. And even though you've gained a year, it doesn't mean you've lost a year. It's not too late to do the things that inspire you, scare you, or make you happy. And in the event that you or I have not worked as dilligently as, perhaps, we should have - instead of being depressed about it - we can be motivated by the thought that time is valuable and we have to use it while we got it - ya dig?

Well I'm off to go finish being old(er). How do you cope with anxiety inducing events?

  1. I LOVE your outfit! I wore something similar the other night to a friend's party and I got weird stares (style ignorance) but I felt great in it! As far as anxiety inducing events, I always say there is no need to worry about things you have absolute no control over (although that's easier said than done). Getting older can be a little daunting but so much comes with age, like you finally start to realize you have the freedom to be who you want to be. And you may not be who/where/what you want to be right now, but my new motto is Work While You Wait (for anything you want) and it will take the focus off of the thing that's actually causing the anxiety. Sorry so long but I hope that helped a tiny bit! xoxo

    1. Great perspective! I definitely dig the part about having the freedom to be who you want to be! I've noticed that as I have gotten older. And thanks for the outfit love :)

  2. Love it all!
